Only a lone clue; the word Croatoan was all that was found carved on a tree when a new ship with supplies arrived to support the colony of Roanoke on the outer Banks of North Carolina in 1590. The knife used to carve CROATOAN, long lost to history, was probably something like this shape, minus the amazing 1/8″ A2 tool steel with a Graffiti textured finish, black-yellow burlatex handle and with a dyed quarter sawn curly oak bolster. The tang has been tapered, blade measures 3 1/2″ and an OAL of 8 1/8″. This pattern would make an excellent EDC.
