Hults Bruk

Hults Bruk is a well-known Sweden Axe and Hatchet company, since 1697. Hults Bruk pieces are hand-forged and the location was selected because of the town’s proximity in the valley of a forest to the water. This stream was the company’s source of power via a water wheel. In 1697, when it began, forging was done by hand using the water driven hammers. When the company originally started the pieces made included nails and iron bars, followed by hand tools, such as axes and spades.

For three generations the Ekelund family has run the Hults Bruk company. In 1887 one of the Ekelund family members/owners traveled to America to study industrial methods and buy modern machinery. He also made a return visit to open a Hults Bruk location in the United States, where the first axes were sold in the late 1880s.

In the 1930s the Hults Bruk company furthered development to find more effective ways of forging a blade to maintain its sharpness, over time and use. The breakthroughs that occurred in that pre-war era still remain evident in the axe product line today.

The Hults Bruk company went through some different purchases and owners, until 1992. Hults Bruk was sold to its present owner, The Hultafors Group. The company consists of over 20 employees, where over 100,000 axes heads are hand forged each year.
